Local DOAN Kien Quoc Qualifies for Quarter finals
This afternoon in the Quan Ngua Stadium in Hanoi the large local fans had something to cheer about. The Vietnamese DOAN Kien Quoc strong 3 games to 0 win over the higher ranked SHIMOYAMA Takanori meant that he would be in the final 8 and in the quarter finals later the same night.
However he needed the strong win to qualify because had earlier already lost to the number 4 in the group Hong Kong's TSE Ka Chan in a tight 5 game battle. In fact in the end the 3 players all registered with one win each, all losing to GAO Ning. The strong win against SHIMOYAMA and the fact he had lost so close to TSE meant that the Vietnamese still had a small glimmer of hope to have a local crowned 2007 Asia Cup Champion.
Later tonight he comes up against Korea's KIM Joong Hoon, who himself is also in top form. A tough road to be champion for DOAN, but to make the final 8 of the Asia Cup is already a big result, and no place better to do than in front of your home crowd.
