Saudi National Day, table tennis joins the celebrations
Encompassed under one roof, world renowned stores, fashion, dining, cafes, entertainment; at the Alothaim Mall at Alhassa City in the east of Saudi Arabia, it is state of the art living.
On Wednesday 23rd September, there was an added feature; the sport of table tennis.
In co-operation with the Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sport, the Saudi Table Tennis Federation organised a major promotion; notably present for the initiative was Ali Al-Khadrawi who earlier this year in February at the West Asia Qualification tournament staged in Amman, Jordan, secured his place in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
However, on this occasion the 23-year-old was not the focus of attention; the theme was to give those in the splendid mall, the opportunity to try the sport and underline the fact that hitting the small white ball is fun!
A special occasion, one of several events on a special day; every year, Saudi Arabian National Day is celebrated on 23rd September. It is known locally as Al-Yaom-ul-Watany, it marks the day when King Abdulaziz announced the unification of the country as a kingdom in 1932.
Throughout the Kingdom there are folk dances, songs and festivals; roads and buildings are decorated with Saudi flags.
Table tennis, the sport for all, joined the festivities.
