Team Asia, the biggest winner of World Cadet Challenge 2009

October 25th, 2009

The 2009 World Cadet Challenge concluded in Tokyo with great success yesterday. In addition to winning the girls team, girls singles and boys? singles title  and obtaining  the silver medal in the boys team event, Asia proved to be the biggest winner by obtaining three and two tickets out of total four to Singapore Youth Olympic Games respectively in the girls? and boys? singles.

Being the top seed in the world, Ms. Yang Ha Eun(KOR)  and Yin Hang(CHN) both progressed to the final stage of the event smoothly.  With no big surprise, they both took the crown in the singles, but Yin Hang had some trouble with Niwa Koki  from Japan in the final .    Ms.  Sawettabut Suthasini (THA),   a player with lots of improvement recently also reserved her place in the semi-finals after giving impressive performance in the team event a few days ago.   Though fighting hard with Japanese chopper Ms. Tanioka Ayuka(JPN), Ms. Suthasini lost the game 2:4 with precious experience accumulated.  Anyway, both of the two Asian girls have already qualified for the 2010 YOC.

On the boys? side, regretfully, Kim Dong Hyun(KOR) lost in the quarter final again to the Europe No. 2, but he might qualify through world ranking later this year.  Seemingly,  Chiu Chung Hei from Hong Kong will also qualify according to this selection criterion.

Asia team is the winner of 2009 ITTF World Cadet Challenge overall standings.

Let?s congratulate the huge success of the talented junior players coming from China, Japan, Korea and Thailand and wish them even bigger success the next year in Singapore !
