Laos ATTU “Aim for the Stars” Equipment Assistance

Wednesday 08 September

Like many countries Laos was initially planning to use their ATTU “Aim for the Stars” support for training camps and upskilling of their coaches and officials however covid caused the cancellation of these plans and they opted for equipment assistance to prepare for strong post lockdown initiatives.

Laos and ATTU “Aim for the Stars” agreed on 29 tables, 18 nets, 350 3 star balls, 4820 1 star balls, 10 towell stands, 10 umpire tables to be sent from Stag in India, but again covid restrictions caused many logistical problems, as Stag could only ship the equipment as far as Bangkok, and an alternative had to be found to take the equipment from Bangkok to Laos overland with complicated customs clearance and reloading in Bangkok plus another customs clearance in Laos.

With great co-operation between dynamic LAOTTF Secretary-General Somchay Vongsa and her team, Stag, and ATTU “Aim for the Stars” this was finally achieved a few days ago after more than one year of discussions and hundreds of emails.

The equipment assistance will focus on 3 main countrywide focus areas including:

1. Youth Table Tennis Training Centers in Vientiane, Dalavone Training Center, SV Training Center, Lanexang Training Center

2. Outdoor tables for Secondary School Table Tennis projects

3. National Team training and for National Competitions

Sengdeuane LACHANTHABOUNE President of LAO National Olympic Committee and President of Lao Table Tennis Federation said:

“On Behalf of Lao TTF, I want to thank Asian Table Tennis Union for continuing support and equipment assistance to project and develop the sport in Laos. Lao TTF also want to thank you Mr. Glenn Tepper for his kindness and hard work for the project in this pandemic difficult situations.”
